Ecogas is stepping forward in resource recovery and renewable energy, with a groundbreaking anaerobic digestion initiative gaining both national and international recognition.

In 2025, the project was awarded the WasteMINZ Award for Best Resource Recovery Initiative, highlighting its impact on reducing waste and creating value from organic materials. Its global significance was further recognised when it received the AD Hero of the Year award at the World Biogas Summit in the UK, placing New Zealand firmly on the international stage.

This initiative is not just award-winning—it’s pioneering. It is the first commercial anaerobic digestion plant in New Zealand, and notably, the first to inject renewable gas directly into the country’s national infrastructure.
